10 Tips to Win Big Playing Blackjack in 2019

tips to win big playing blackjack

Blackjack is one of the most popular card and casino games in this day and age. It's probably because Blackjack is so easy to learn and play. Compared to other casino card games like Poker, Blackjack doesn't have complicated combinations you'll need to memorize to win big.

How to Play Blackjack?

The game mechanics are simple enough.

The goal is to get the sum of your 2 cards as close to 21 as possible.

Get a card over 21 and you will lose the game.

If you get less than 21, you can opt to either HIT or STAND.

  • Hit means you will get another card from the dealer.
  • Stand means you will retain your cards.

If you hit and get a value closer to 21 than the dealer, then you win the round!

But if you hit and go more than 21, you lose.

If you stand, you won't get any more cards. This can mean that you're already satisfied with your cards, or you don't want to risk going over 21 and automatically losing.

It seems simple enough, right? But there are actually a handful of tips that players can take note of to win big!

Card Values in Blackjack

  • 2-10 should be counted as is.
  • Face cards (King, Queen, Jack) should be counted as 10.
  • You can count your ace card as either one or eleven.

10 Tips to Winning Big at Blackjack

1. Choose the Lowest Minimum Bet

This is more of a general, practical advice for all casino players.

If you're playing on a traditional land-based casino, then you should always pick the tables that have a minimum bet that's not more than 5% of your total stack.

This is because playing at a table with a minimum bet that exceeds that percentage means trouble. You can run the risk of losing your money before the chance to really win a big amount. A winning that will help you get back all the money that you bet.

2. Never split 10s!

It will seem like a good idea to play the two hands. But remember that 20 is not far from 21. It's best to keep what you have. The priority, after all, is to never go beyond 21!

3. No to 5s and Yes to 8s

A pair of 5 should never be split but a pair of 8s can be split in all situations. That is, except when the dealer is showing you a 10.

4. Split Aces

The point of Blackjack is to get a blackjack (21). Splitting your aces will give you two chances to get a blackjack.

5. Stick With What You Have

Still, it's actually best to just stick with the cards that you have. All you have to do is keep in mind that the dealer will always stick to a value of 17.

You must also remember that the number of cards in the deck and how they add up gives you less chances of getting a 4 or below. There's a much higher chance of getting 5 or more.

Depending on your 2 cards, it might be risky to take a HIT.

6. The Fewer the Deck of Cards, the Better the Player's Odds

Playing with 1 deck vs. playing with 2 decks greatly affects the player's odds. But playing with 3 decks and above doesn't affect it as much as the former.

What does this mean? If you have the choice to play between a single deck and multi-deck game, always choose the single deck.

In fact, you must always go for the lowest number of decks. Choose the 6 deck game over the 8 deck game.

7. Your Only Opponent is the Dealer

Some players have a tendency to look at other players' hands. Maybe it's a habit you retain from playing other casino card games. But remember that in Blackjack, your only opponent is the Dealer.

So avoid distracting yourself looking at other players' hands but your own.

8. Know when to Stand

If the dealer is showing 4, 5, or 6, it would be better for a player to stand on hard 12, or hit hard if the dealer is showing 2, 3, 7, or higher.

9. " Early" or "Late" Surrender is in the Player's Favor

If your game of Blackjack has a rule of "surrender", it's better to take this option since it's in the player's favor.

Surrender is a rule that allows players to forfeit half their bet. This means that the player loses half his bet, but can also keep the other half. This is used when the player feels like they are on the losing end of the game.

Late Surrender happens when the player surrenders and loses half his bet after the dealer checks for blackjack. (When the dealer declares that he has a 'blackjack' or total card value of 21).

Early surrender is the best option of the 2 types of Surrender, but its rarely used and allowed in a game of Blackjack.

Early Surrender happens when the player can forfeit his hand and half his bet before the dealer checks for blackjack.

In the Case of Online Blackjack

Only a few land-based casinos have a table playing Blackjack that also allows the rule of "Surrender". In fact, some players don't know that they can use it either.

But in the case of online Blackjack, only a select number of the best online casinos in Malaysia allow "surrender".

10. Doubling Down is your Best Advantage

Doubling down is the best advantage for a gambler when playing Blackjack!

Doubling Down allows the player to double their bet in the middle of a hand in exchange for one extra card. It's risky but definitely worth it! Just make sure to balance the times when do try to use it. Scared players avoid using it, while adventurous players use it too much.

Remember to double-down when your cards show great potential. But also play safe and risky at the same time. That's in the heart of the best gambling experiences.
